Press Release :Regulation of visitation at the Gorge of Samaria

We would like to inform you that due to recent landslides along the riverbed that affected the access to part of the main path and forecasts for rain in the coming days, the Gorge of Samaria will remain accessible only from Agia Roumeli (southern entrance) for the first 2 km of the path, until Thursday 05 May. From Friday, May 06, the National Park of Samaria is expected to be accessible from both entrances for the entire route, provided that there are no further issues related to accessibility and safety, where there will be new and timely information to the public.

May 21st is the European Natura 2000 Network Day. It aims to make European citizens more aware of the natural riches the Natura 2000 network holds, of the conservation work they carry out and of the benefits brought by the protected nature to people and to our planet. In this framework, the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency and the Management Unit of Samaria National Park and Protected Areas of Western Crete announce that on Saturday 21st of May 2022, the entry to the National Park of Samaria will be without an entrance fee. Visiting hours remain the same.
